Help
Most people only need the basics: build a watchlist and let onesub tell you which streaming service to pick next month. If you want to help everyone else, log where you see films and add the ones that are missing.
Basics: your watchlist and your pick
- Sign in (top right), then set your home region in Settings. Where to watch and your pick are worked out for that region.
- Find films with Find a film — search by title, or filter by language and year. Open a film and press Add to watchlist.
- Open your Watchlist. At the top is your pick for next month: the streaming service that covers the most of the films you haven’t watched yet, with a couple of others worth considering. Below it, each film shows where it can be watched in your region.
- When you’ve seen a film, press Watched. It stops counting towards your pick; Move back undoes it.
What the labels mean
- Available
- Someone saw it on that service in the last 30 days.
- Unconfirmed
- It was seen there, but more than 30 days ago. It may still be there; it counts for less in your pick.
- Gone
- Someone reported it gone after it was last seen.
- Unknown
- Nobody has logged it in your region yet — you could be the first.
Where to watch comes only from people’s sightings, not from the streaming services, so the more people log, the better everyone’s pick gets.
Logging sightings
A sighting is a note that a film is (or isn’t) on a streaming service in a region. It’s the heart of onesub.
- Open the film’s page and scroll to Seen this somewhere?
- Choose the platform and region, then what happened:
- I watched it here — you streamed it there.
- I saw it listed here — you saw it in the service’s catalogue.
- It’s gone from here — it used to be there and isn’t any more.
- Set When to the day you saw it (you can backdate), then press Log it.
- Sightings are public and credited to your username in the film’s activity log. Made a mistake? Press Retract on your own sighting.
- Upvote other people’s sightings you can confirm and downvote wrong ones. A sighting with 2 more downvotes than upvotes is marked disputed and stops counting, until it’s voted back up.
- Only log what you’ve seen yourself — no copying from other listing sites. You can log up to 30 sightings an hour.
Adding films
Can’t find a film? Search for it first — it may be listed under its original title — then go to Add a film. Every film needs a link so others can check it’s real.
- With a TMDB link (themoviedb.org/movie/…) the film is added as verified, with its title, language and year filled in from TMDB. You can also search TMDB from the same page. Both need your own TMDB key (below).
- With any other link (IMDb, Wikipedia, the film’s official page…) you type in the details and the film is added as unverified. No key needed. If the film has a title in its own script, add that as its original title.
- Anyone with a TMDB key can verify an unverified film by adding its TMDB link on the film’s page; its details are then replaced with TMDB’s. Until then, the person who added it can use Fix details to correct typos.
- Verified films’ details come from TMDB and can’t be edited here. If something is wrong, fix it on TMDB and it will flow through here within a few months.
- You can add up to 20 films a day.
Getting a TMDB key
onesub has no TMDB key of its own. Create a free account on TMDB, request a non-commercial API key at themoviedb.org/settings/api, and paste it into Settings. It’s kept only in your browser, never on our server.
